So my dad is getting old, and he can afford it, so since 2013 I've been looking at the used 911 GT3 RS market so that I might be able to convince him to get that instead of the new 991 because contrasting color stickers are exactly what you need on a glorified Beetle.

I remember them under 90k I think or at least hovering at 95k which by normal logic would put them at around 90-87k by now since it's almost a year later. So when did they jump to $160k for a GT3RS.

And since when the did the top 997s, the RS 4.0 and the GT2 COST $400-500k.

Has he thought about an Audi R8?

V8's for around $85k and V10's around $100-105k

He's a Porsche guy HAHA. He's dreamed of getting a 911 for forever, and he's not necessarily going to get one now just in the near future, so I keep a lookout on these things for him. (Maybe he'll wait to get the new GT3 used, but he's determined to get a Manual.)

He's been talking about the Panamera now more, I hope he doesn't end up getting one of those instead of a 911 D:

Why not an older 911?? Why the hell is that not an option?

Gotcha, gotcha.

Well, if he's determined to get a manual, then the Panamera is out of the question since the American market doesn't get one!

He doesn't really like the classic Porsches, like the 60s or 70s ones. I know he HATES the 996 generation. And he's always more of a slightly-used car person over a classic-car person.

He fell in love with a 1970s RS clone on Bringatrailer before, I hope he'll find one of those again since I love them.

How can one not like a classic Porsche?? He better have a valid reason for this..

He doesn't have to get a 60s or 70s car. There's still the 911SC with the bulletproof, all aluminum 3.0L motor from'78-83; the 3.2 Carreras are considered to be the best of the original 911s from '84-89. You've got the 964 from '90-94 and the 993 from '95-98.

And he better have a valid reasoning for hating the 996 other than the annoying answer that is "the headlamps". I mean sure the interior wasn't as great or luxurious as the 993 but honestly, Porsche was never about luxury and amenities until the 997; it was pure sports car heritage up until then; and the 991 is the exact opposite of what a proper 911 should be IMO.

And I don't see how classic and used are different. If he bought an older 911 from the 80s it'd definitely be a used car.

HE HAS OPTIONS. Please make him consider an air-cooled if possible, the newer ones are nothing like the older models and anyone who's driven both will tell you this. He should at least test drive as many as he can before he makes up his mind.

Sorry if I sound like an ass, but I misplaced the key to my dad's 911 and have been searching for the last 3 hours to find it and I've been very frustrated. :(

All GT3s are expensive. Even 996s go for >$50k.

I wouldn't buy a GT3 unless it'll be a track rat. Go for the 911 GTS.

+1 on avoiding the GT3 RS unless he intends to track it. They're awfully harsh for the street. Coincidentally, there's a GT3 RS in my run group today and tomorrow at NJMP. The sound they make is pure bliss! Want me to see if the guy wants to sell it? =P

Yeah, I had been searching around and looking at RS 4.0's not too long ago (just for fun, I like to dream) and they definitely weren't in the price range they are now... I want to say they were hovering around 200K, but I can't remember exactly...

The GT3RS jumped to 160k around the time the 991 GT3 came out, because Porsche fanatics then realized that the 997.2 GT3RS 4.0 is the last great drivers car Porsche is going to make and as such they are massively increasing in value. And the reason why the fanatics are affecting the value so much is because the other rich people (non fanatics) are looking to show off and buy the turbo since it's more expensive, faster, and much easier to live with.
